Originally at Cheltenham Races the event was called the National Hunt Two-Mile Champion Chase and was established 52 years ago in 1959. Cheltenham Races Winners of The Queen Mother Champion Chase
Cheltenham Races – Summary
The Queen Mother Champion Chase has always lived in the shadows of the Cheltenham Gold Cup at Cheltenham Races. This race however has still managed to showcase some exceptional talents. Moscow Flyer for instance went into the record books in 2003 and 2005 after becoming a champion. Arguably though, the most famous winner was English racehorse Badsworth Boy who recorded a hat trick between 1983 and 1985 at Cheltenham Races.
Cheltenham Races 15th March
Cheltenham Races 14.05 Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy
The Arkle Challenge Trophy will be held once again this year at Cheltenham Races. It will be the second race on Day one and is usually for Novice Chasers open to horses aged five years and upwards. It is a class one race running over 2 miles with the prize money at £130.000
The Arkle Challenge Trophy this year at Cheltenham Races
The Arkle Challenge trophy held at this year’s Cheltenham Races is generally pitched for young chasers who are on a stepping stone to step up to bigger Cheltenham Races including jump races like the Blue Ribband event and The Cheltenham Gold Cup.
Cheltenham Races will again see this race contested by small and highly trained competitive fields. The need to race at a fast pace and quick subsequent jumping will set a tough test for the runners, who are just novices, but this event can compromise their talent if it’s not raced well. Usually a win in this event at Cheltenham Races will make it to the highest level over 2 miles or more.
Cheltenham Races past winners
Vow Por Ustedes, Azertyuiop, Moscow Flyer and Flagship Uberalles are just a few that have made it into the history books having gone on to win the two mile event, winning the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival while Gold Cup winners Kicking King and War of Attrition ran in the Arkle. Triple Gold Cup winner Best Mate was an entry for this race in 2001 when the meeting was cancelled due to the foot and mouth epidemic. Cheltenham Races will host this event on Tue 15th March

Greatest ever winners at Cheltenham Races
Cheltenham Races greates 5 winners
Cheltenham Races takes a look at the top 5 greatest Cheltenham gold cup horses. Cheltenham Festival is the world famous event taking place every year at Cheltenham races. The gold cup is the finale of the weekend and is regarded as the highlight to finish off the festival. To win this prestigious event is an outstanding achievement. To win more than once guarantees a place in history
Here are the 5 greatest ever Cheltenham Races Gold Cup horses.
5. Kauto Star – 2 Gold Cup Wins
Kauto Star bred in France is the only horse to regain the gold cup and also the only horse to win the King George VI chase for four consecutive years. Kauto Star won the Gold Cup as favorite back in 2007 but was beaten by his stablemate Denman the following year. Kauto star however bounced back in 2009 to regain the Gold Cup and after being described as the best performance in the race since Arkle having won over Denman by 13 lengths.
4. Cottage Rake – 3 Gold Cup Wins
Cottage Rake became a 3 time winner at Cheltenham Races after being failed by a vet on three separate examinations. Cottage Rake became only the second horse to win the Gold Cup three times in a row in 1948, 1949 and 1950. After the third victory it was sad to see his form completely dip but had already done enough to write himself into the history books.
Cheltenham Races – Top 3
3. Best Mate – 3 Gold Cup Wins
Between 2002 and 2004 Best mate won at Cheltenham Races in consecutive years. Having burst a blood vessel eight days before the race in 2005 it was thought that he could of eclipsed the legendary arkle’s record for a fourth Gold Cup. The same year the inevitable happened and sadly Best Mate suffered a heart attack and died whilst racing at Exeter. Best Mates ashes were laid beside the winning post at Cheltenham where he had enjoyed so many triumphs.
2. Arkle – 3 Gold Cup Wins
Arkle’s three triumphs came at Cheltenham Races in 1964, 1965 and 1966. His dominance in the field was so great that he was predicted for a fourth Gold Cup win hadn’t he fractured a pedal bone which ended his career and was retired. Arkle’s timeform rating of 212 is still the highest ever awarded to a steeplechaser with Kauto Star the joint third highest on 191. Arkle also holds the record for being shortest price at 1/10 where he won the Gold Cup in 1966.
And finally, Cheltenham Races best ever winner
1. Golden Miller – 5 Gold Cup Wins
Golden Miller is the most successful horse of all time winning the Gold Cup five times in a row between 1932 and 1936. As the Gold Cup wasn’t staged in 1931 and 1937 the horse could have won even more at Cheltenham Races. Golden Miller will always be known as a legend but his most famous year was 1934 where he won the Cheltenham classic then went on to Aintree to break the course record in the Grand National.
If Kauto Star was to win this year at Cheltenham Races he would be joint second with three wins.
Cheltenham Races Gold Cup 2010
Cheltenham Races Gold Cup 2010
The 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup was an eagerly anticipated event and turned out to be full of excitement as everyone had expected. It brought together two quality horses in Kauto Star and Denman, the former looking for his third win at Cheltenham Races and the latter the punter’s choice hoping to repeat his 2008 win.
The Most Prestigious Event At Cheltenham Races
The Cheltenham Gold Cup is a Grade 1 chase over 3 miles 2 and 1/2 furlongs and is open to horses over 5 years old. It used to be considered the trial event for the Grand National, but as the Cheltenham Races Festival grew in stature, so did the importance of this particular race. Dating back to 1819 when it started out as a flat race, the first running of the event over fences was in 1924. Since then the Gold Cup has provided us with many unforgettable moments most notably Golden Miller’s five consecutive wins in the 30′s, Best Mate’s 3 consecutive wins from 2002 and the much loved performances of Desert Orchid in the 80′s.
Cheltenham Races Final Day 2010
As the race unfolded Kauto Star never looked at ease and made a terrible error on the back straight from which he never recovered, finally falling in the home straight. Denman with Tony McCoy on board had run a faultless race jumping to perfection enhancing his hopes of a Grand National victory, but as the horses approached the steep run in, the younger Imperial Commander from the Nigel Twiston-Davies yard simply had the speed to finally see off Denman. It truly was a classic race.
One of the best ever Cheltenham races.

Cheltenham Races 2010 – Review
A brief look at Cheltenham Races 2010
The 2010 Gold Cup at Cheltenham races was another year of drama and excitement like we all hoped for. Everyone’s eyes were on Kauto Star looking for his third win in the race and Denman the 2008 winner. The outcome served up something rather different but very special. The punters also had their eyes on Imperial Commander, with his praises being sung all season he had to be respected for his record at Cheltenham races before the off.
It was easy to see that early on Kauto Star was not travelling well and after clattering a fence on the back straight the Cheltenham races crowd was on the edge of their seats. Luckily though he did well to stay up right but it didn’t last long as Kauto Star fell under pressure to leave Imperial Commander and Denman to fight out a tense finish. Imperial Commander had been out of the spotlight but shouldn’t be forgotten for winning the Ryanair Chase here last year and had all but beaten Kauto Star in the Betfair Chase at Haydock in November. However Denman ran an absolute blinder, almost back to his nearly best as he came through under an exceptional ride from Paddy Brennan to lead, approaching two out and when he asked the question over the final fence he answered emphatically. The whole of Cheltenham races were on their feet and the thoroughbred duly won by seven lengths.
A great finish to a wonderful festival at
